The highest nourishment found in foods comes from the foods that are the most multicolored and found naturally in nature. There are very few foods that are "white" that offer a great deal of nutrition, with cauliflower and jicama being two notable exceptions. Orange, purple, red, green and brown foods offer the maximum nutrition. White flour and white rice are specially lacking in nutrition.

Many years ago, the bulk of breads and flour products were made with the exceedingly wholesome flour that was made from the whole grain. This integrated the entire seed, the fiber-rich outside bran layer and the germ. However, in an endeavor to make flour last longer, white flour was developed. Whole grain flour tends to spoil more quickly and it can also attract a creepy-crawly called a weevil that will eat it up.

So in order to protect foods for a longer phase of time, flour prepared from only the endosperm of the seed was created. This flour was fluffy and white and often even bleached with chemicals in order to make it white and pretty. It is interesting to note that while whole grain flour will draw weevils, white flour is actually a inherent insecticide because insects cannot live on a nutritional regime of pure white flour, as there is not enough dietary value.

White flour became very general. It made breads and baked products that were very light and airy. However, it did not take too long for the finding to be made that white flour no longer provided any nutritional value. White flour was then enriched with 4 vitamins and minerals to restore a few of the 15 vitamins and minerals that had been lost. Whole grain flour also provided natural fiber but none of the fiber was added back in.

Even today the majority of breads and baked goods that are existing to us are made from this nutritionally devoid enriched white flour. Even most breads that are labeled "wheat" are regularly made from enriched flour. If you want to get outstanding nutrients from the breads that you eat, you need to make sure that the first item on the ingredient label is "whole" grain flour and never "enriched".

The more processed a food is the less nutritious it tends to be. White foods are apt to be lacking in all of the chief nutrients. White rice is similar to white flour in its dietetic value. Whole grain foods, with all of the intrinsic fiber and nutrients, are the most healthful and these foods are never white but always shades of brown.

Other colors are also valuable when it comes to nutrition. Orange fruits and vegetables provide beta-carotene. Purple fruits and vegetables provide anthocyanins and resveratrol. Green fruits and vegetables give many other antioxidants and significantly critical vitamins and minerals. The healthiest and most nutritious diets are the most vibrant.

So if you want to make the most of your nutrition, abolish all of the white foods, not including cauliflower and jicama, of course. Multiply your ingestion of multi-colored vegetables and fruits and incorporate lean protein sources such as lean meats, fish or poultry or if you are a vegetarian you can incorporate different beans and legumes for a protein source. And make sure that your bread is made from whole-grain flour and not enriched flour.
